Paul Davies - SR29

Paul has been involved with Autograss Racing and various other forms of motorsport for many years. Paul's Dad, John Davies, used to race very successfully with a Datsun powered Mini and Paul always used to help out with the family car.

When John stopped racing in the mid '90's, Paul took over the driving role and shared the car with his sister Sally. They then raced a Nova with an 8 valve 2 litre Vauxhall engine. All of their cars have always been self built.

Paul has qualified for several National Championships and also qualified for the '99 Class 6 National Final at Bristol. He was running in fifth when a blown radiator hose ended his race. In 2000 he only needed to finish in the top four of his third heat to qualify for the final but unfortunatley a puncture put an end to that.

In 2003, Paul swapped from the trusty Nova shell to a Mk2 Astra shell which he built at the end of 2002. It was at this point he also swapped to the 2 litre 16v Vauxhall motor favoured by many of the other Class 6 drivers. He also registered for the BAS but teething problems with the car in the early part of the year put him out of contention. He did qualify for the last two BAS finals of the year where he competed strongly.

In 2004 with the same car, he made the MAP final and finished 3rd to take his best National based finish to date. Paul also made the Wessex BAS final that year but finished just outside of the trophy positions.

2005 saw a new Astra shell built and also a new 2 litre 16v race prepared Vauxhall engine fitted. The car showed early promise and easily qualified for the Nationals but misfire problems held the car back at National level. Two thirds and a fourth were not enough at the Mens Nationals but at Evesham BAS two weeks later, Paul was unlucky when having a second and two thirds were also not enough to make the final.

Paul wrapped up the Class 6 points at STAR on their last meeting but a fire under the bonnet stopped him from taking part in the yearly champion of champions race.

He is, as yet, undecided on his plans for Class 6 in 2006.
